A new beginning – the Jewish Museum Vienna reopened its doors

After a complete technical renovation the Jewish Museum © stadt-wien.atVienna reopened its doors on both the Judenplatz and Dorotheergasse in the first district. It provides an insight into the Jewish past and present and its precious collections. Moreover you can go on a journey through hundred years of Hollywood.
The new Jewish Museum presents itself modern and very attractive to visitors. After the renovation it shines in new brightness.
The guests get some impressions about the Jewish every day life and can have a look at different typical utensils and valuable articles. The Museum presents this in an interactive way – visitors can write on papers what their impression or thoughts are.
The exhibition ‘BIGGER THAN LIFE’ leads the guest © Photofest/Warner Brothers, Casablanca (1942)through hundred years of Hollywood. The dream factory was originally invented by a group of young Jewish immigrants, who wanted to escape the poverty of Europe and to start a new life in New York. There lies the origin of happy-endings, the typical images of the American dream and the star-system, we have still nowadays.

Scenes and excerpts from famous or less famous movies, ranging from silent to talking pictures, illustrates the change in dealing with the Jewish identity in Hollywood.
